HELLO
Sinking Ship is Candi Blox’s studio space — a tongue-in-cheek name that reflects the chaotic, collapsing systems their work responds to, while acting as a site of rebellion, making, and survival through art.
STATEMENT
Candi Blox’s work confronts the uncomfortable contradictions of contemporary life. Rooted in a multidisciplinary background and now focused on ceramics, their practice explores hypocrisy, environmental collapse, and social injustice through sculptural, narrative-driven forms. These works exist in a liminal space, blurring the boundaries between the familiar and the unsettling.
Influenced by the visual language of street and pop art as well as surrealism, Candi uses bold symbols and simplified forms to provoke awareness and disrupt passive viewing. Traditional earthy glazes are paired with exaggerated, hybrid features to create figures that feel both playful and disturbing, drawing viewers in before confronting them with deeper meaning.
Each piece acts as a quiet form of resistance. Minimal in form yet heavy in implication, the work asks viewers to question the systems they participate in, the truths they ignore, and their own role in a world shaped by contradiction.
BIO
Born in the UK, Candi spent part of their childhood in Norway and South Africa before returning to the UK in their teens. These early experiences inspired a love of travel and the natural world, as well as an awareness of both social and environmental injustice. After rising to executive digital producer in the media industry with time spent at renowned companies such as the BBC and MTV, as well time working in Australia and Germany, Candi left the corporate world to retrain in creative practice. After getting a Masters in Animation from Central Saint Martins, London, Candi is now based in Los Angeles and working primarily in ceramics, creating functional and sculptural pieces that explore environmental collapse and contemporary social issues.
